A Flavorful 15-Year Celebration: Our Anniversary at Mitchell’s Ocean Club


Last week, Josh and I celebrated our 15-year anniversary with a much-needed getaway to Easton, Columbus. The excitement was palpable as we looked forward to a few days of shopping and indulging in delicious food.


Our first stop was Sur La Table, where I was in absolute culinary heaven! Surrounded by kitchen gadgets, gourmet ingredients, and all sorts of kitchen wonders, I couldn’t resist splurging on a few must-have items. We definitely spent a fortune, but every penny was worth it for the sheer joy of discovering new culinary treasures.



After our shopping spree, we were ready for a memorable dining experience. We had made reservations for 7 PM at Mitchell’s Ocean Club, and boy, did it exceed our expectations! From the moment we walked in, the upscale yet relaxed atmosphere set the perfect tone for our celebration.


 

 

To start, Josh enjoyed the Old Fashioned, crafted with Russell’s Reserve 10 Year Bourbon, Aperol, and Bitters. It was served with a super fancy ice cube bearing the Ocean Club’s logo. I opted for the Black Orchid, a delightful blend of Belvedere Organic Blackberry & Lemongrass Infusion, St. Germain, Fresh Lemon, and White Cranberry Juice, also served with a large spherical ice cube encasing the black orchid! Just stunning.

 The Surf and Turf: This dish was the highlight of our meal. The Surf and Turf featured succulent scallops, perfectly seared to achieve a delicate caramelization on the outside while remaining tender and juicy inside. The braised short rib was rich and flavorful, its melt-in-your-mouth texture complementing the gnocchi, which was light and pillowy. The black garlic jus added a deep, umami-packed note, tying all the elements together in a symphony of flavors.

Hamachi Crudo: The Hamachi Crudo was a refreshing and vibrant start to our meal. The hamachi, or yellowtail, was sliced ultra-thin, showcasing its buttery texture and delicate taste. It was topped with pickled mango, which introduced a tangy sweetness, and sweet peppers that added a subtle crunch. The micro cilantro provided a fresh burst of herbal brightness, while the sesame ginger vinaigrette offered a zesty, slightly nutty finish. This dish was a delightful contrast to the richness of the other courses.


Florida Grouper: The Florida Grouper was another standout dish. The grouper was perfectly cooked, flaky and moist, and paired with succulent lobster that melted in our mouths. The gnocchi was light and pillowy, contrasting beautifully with the seared fish. Spring peas added a pop of freshness and color, while the lemon jus lent a bright and tangy accent that enhanced the flavors of the dish without overpowering them.


Ten Layer Carrot Cake: Even though we were completely stuffed, we couldn’t resist ending our meal with a decadent dessert. We decided to get the Ten Layer Carrot Cake to go, and it was every bit as spectacular as it sounds. This towering confection was layered with rich, moist carrot cake and enveloped in a smooth, velvety cream cheese icing. Drizzled with a luscious pineapple syrup, the cake offered a perfect balance of sweet and tangy flavors. The combination of spices and textures made each bite a delightful treat, and it was worth every calorie. They even suprised us with a Happy Anniversary chocolate coin!

From the attentive staff, who were incredibly knowledgeable about the menu, to the elegant ambiance, every aspect of our dining experience was impeccable. It was the perfect way to celebrate our 15 wonderful years together. We left with full bellies and hearts, already dreaming about our next visit to try even more of their incredible dishes.
