Ingredient Spotlight

Monterey Jack Cheese: This semi-hard cheese is known for its mild, buttery flavor and excellent melting quality. Monterey Jack originated in California, where it was crafted to pair with Mexican cuisine. It’s smooth and creamy, adding a perfect balance to the sharper flavor of Cheddar in this recipe.

Wonton Wrappers: Traditionally used in Asian cuisine, wonton wrappers are thin dough squares made from flour, eggs, and water. Here, they provide the ideal crunchy base for our savory filling. When baked, they offer the perfect balance of light crispiness and structure, making them a versatile choice for appetizers.

Tips, Serving Suggestions & Storage Advice | SAUSAGE AND CHEESE WONTON CUPS

Pre-Cook the Sausage: Brown the sausage in advance and drain any excess grease for a perfect texture.
Choose Extra Sharp Cheddar: Adds a richer flavor without overwhelming the other ingredients.
Spray the Pan: Don’t skip spraying the muffin pan to ensure easy release and avoid breaking the wonton cups.
Chop Ingredients Finely: This helps the filling fit better into each cup and ensures an even distribution of flavors.
Add a Hint of Spice: Try adding chopped jalapeños for a spicy twist!
Serve Immediately: These are best enjoyed warm out of the oven when the cheese is still gooey.
Pair with Dipping Sauce: Consider a spicy sriracha mayo or extra ranch dressing for dipping.
Make Ahead: You can bake the wonton cups a day ahead and store them in an airtight container. Reheat in the oven before filling and serving.
Use Regular Muffin Pan if Needed: If mini-muffin pans aren’t available, use regular muffin pans for a larger portion size.
Double the Batch for Crowds: This recipe is perfect for doubling if you’re hosting a larger gathering!
