A Delightful Evening at Soho's Capitol Market

On a quiet Monday evening, we decided to satisfy our Italian cravings at Soho's Capitol Market in downtown Charleston. With the weekend crowd behind us, we walked into a quiet, laid back vibe, which meant immediate seating and prompt service—a definite plus after a long day.
As soon as we were seated, our attentive waitress brought us bread and water. While we’re not big fans of plain buttered bread, a quick request for some oil to dip the bread into made all the difference. The bread became the perfect vehicle for the rich and flavorful olive oil.
We kicked off our meal with a glass of Whitehaven Sauvignon Blanc and the ginger-crusted seared tuna appetizer. The tuna was seared to perfection and served with a delightful mix of Asian vegetables, ponzu sauce, and wasabi. The dish was so well-balanced and proportioned that we savored every last bite.

For our entrées, we decided to share the grilled scallop and shrimp dish and the vegetarian three cheese stuffed shells. The seafood dish was a generous portion—so generous, in fact, that we could only finish half of it! It came with a smoked cream sauce that was out of this world, along with snap peas, pancetta, and two risotto cakes. The combination of flavors was simply divine.

Now, anyone who knows Tara knows she's a sucker for anything with sauce and cheese (don’t even mention pizza around here—haha). So, naturally, the three cheese shells caught our eye. The pasta shells were stuffed with a rich blend of ricotta, mascarpone, and parmesan cheese, then topped with the house-made marinara sauce and provolone cheese. The marinara was fantastic, bursting with fresh tomato flavor, and the tender goodness of the pasta did not disappoint.

Despite our best efforts, we couldn’t finish either dish, but that just means we have some flavorful leftovers to look forward to tomorrow!

Overall, Soho’s Capitol Market is a fantastic choice if you’re in the mood for Italian. With generous portions, delicious flavors, and excellent service, it’s a spot we’ll definitely be returning to.
Discovered last night that our son devoured my leftovers for lunch 😭 Would it have killed him to issue a warning?! 🤣
